【2025 Edition】“Sakaitoku” – A Japanese Knife Specialty Shop in Asakusa Offering Sharpening Lessons & Hands-On Experiences
Hello, I’m Okudaira, the owner of Japan Knife TOKU, a Japanese knife specialty store.
At Japan Knife TOKU, we curate and sell high-quality knives crafted by skilled artisans from Sakai (Osaka) and other regions across Japan. We also offer knife sharpening services and hands-on lessons at our store in Asakusa, Tokyo.
Lately, we’ve been receiving more inquiries like “Can you teach me how to sharpen a knife?” or “Do you offer sharpening workshops?”
So in this article, let us introduce our knife sharpening lessons and trial experiences available right here in Asakusa.

What Happens in a Knife Sharpening Lesson?
Yes, even beginners can do it!
Have you ever tried sharpening a knife yourself?
These days, many people think of knives as something to replace once they become dull.
But in fact, properly sharpening your knife can restore or even exceed its original sharpness.
When you use a well-sharpened knife, like one that slices effortlessly through a tomato, cooking becomes much more enjoyable.
At Sakaitoku, we offer knife sharpening workshops that even first-timers can join with confidence.

No Reservation Needed – Join a Knife Sharpening Lesson in Asakusa Today!
We have a dedicated sharpening booth inside the store, and our workshops are available every day.
If the booth is available, you can join without a reservation.
These lessons are perfect for people who:
• Don’t own a whetstone at home
• Have only used a basic knife sharpener
• Want to learn proper sharpening techniques from scratch
We welcome walk-ins! Our staff will support you step-by-step.

Try Before You Buy – Whetstone Testing & Booth Rental Available
Most synthetic whetstones can’t be tested before purchase.
But at Sakaitoku, you can try out different whetstones using our sharpening booth before deciding which one is right for your knife.
Even if you don’t have a good setup at home, you can regularly sharpen your knives at our store without needing to buy your own whetstone.
